Rock Pipit

The Rock  Pipit is often seen on a stone or a rock with views of the surroundings.

Rock Pipit is one of the few small bird species encountered in the open rocky landscape of Stångehuvud. Often you will hear its typical song with high vocalizations, si-si-si-si-si-si, from this small brownish bird flying up while singing, but soon flying down to sit on a stone or a rock, often with views of the surroundings.
The Rock Pipit is mottled brown, lighter underneath, and has a dark, fairly long beak. Its appearance serves well as camouflage in the rocky landscape.

Its nest is well protected at the edge of a stone or a rock crevice.

This pipit returns from winter quarters in the southern or western coastal areas of Europe in March and April. During mild winters single specimens of Rock Pipit can stay along the coasts of southern Sweden.
